51st Fernando Award Annual Finalist Dinner

David Honda, President of D.S. Honda Construction, has been selected as the 2009 Recipient of the prestigious Fernando Award, given annually to an individual who has displayed a lifetime of volunteering and civic accomplishment.

David Honda is President of D.S. Honda Construction, Inc., which specializes in building high-rise business and medical offices. He has held leadership positions in the Valley Economic Development Center, North Valley Regional Chamber of Commerce, United Chambers of Commerce, Economic Alliance of the San Fernando Valley, Rotary Club, Rebuild LA, California State University at Northridge Foundation, and several other community and non-profit organizations.

While still a student at San Fernando Valley State College (now California State University, Northridge), David began his career in construction and design. He became a space planner and draftsperson at SLS Environetics, and started building his reputation in the Los Angeles construction and design business as an innovator and prolific developer.

David is also well known as a philanthropist and a force for change and improvement in the plights of the less fortunate. Through the years, many nonprofit organizations have benefited from his involvement.

As a Member of the Board, Sunshine Canyon Landfill Local Enforcement Agency, David has stated that his goal is to bring 21st-Century ideas to the landfill in order to make it an energy asset. His ideas for the future of Sunshine Canyon Landfill range from introducing revolutionary methods of carbon sequestration, to refuse-decomposition-based energy production.

Active in many organizations, David has been Commissioner, City of Los Angeles Planning Commission for the North Valley region. He has served as Chairman, California State University Northridge Foundation; President, Asian Business Association; and Chairman, Greater L.A. Council on Deafness (GLAD).

David is a Past President of the Fernando Award Foundation, Inc.; Chairman, Northridge Hospital; Member, Board of Directors People’s Bank of California; Board of Directors, Ameritel Corporation; Board of Directors of Advisory Committee CSUN; and, Co-Chairman/Founder of The Valley Economic Alliance.

Since 1980, David has held leadership positions and been active in numerous nonprofit, community, political and charitable organizations including: City of Los Angeles Disabled Access Appeals, California Council on Criminal Justice, American Red Cross, American Heart Association, Tierra Del Sol Foundation, New Directions For Youth, Boy Scouts of America, Girl Scouts of America, the San Fernando Valley Fair, San Fernando Valley Unity Coalition, and the United Chambers of Commerce. There are many more organizations that have profited from David’s participation.


David Honda is a resident of the City of Los Angeles, living in the community of Northridge.
